According to published reports, Bette Midler has been tapped to join the upcoming Gloria Steinem biopic directed by Julie Taymor and written by Sarah Ruhl.
Midler would play Bella Abzug, the lawyer, politician, and activist who helped found the National Women's Political Caucus along with Steinem, Betty Friedan, and others. She would star opposite Julianne Moore as Steinem, with Alicia Vikander in talks to play Steinem between ages 20-40.
Based on Steinem's memoir My Life on the Road, the film will be produced by Taymor and Lynn Hendee, alongside Alex Saks of Page Fifty-Four Pictures, with Steinem executive-producing alongside Amy Richards.
