The Signature Theatre Company revival of Charles Mee's Big Love celebrated its opening night at the Pershing Square Signature Center on February 23. Directed by Tina Landau, the romantic comedy runs through March 15.
Big Love is Mee's adaptation of The Danaids by Aeschylus, one of the world's oldest plays. The work follows 50 brides as they flee their 50 grooms and seek refuge in an Italian villa. Leading the company are Rebecca Naomi Jones as Lydia, Bobby Steggert as Nikos, Lynn Cohen as Bella, Ellen Harvey as Eleanor, Christopher Innvar as Piero, Nathaniel Stampley as Leo, Emmanuel Brown as Oed, Ryan-James Hatanaka as Constantine, Preston Sadeir as Giuliano, Stavey Sargeant as Thyona, and Libby Winters as Olympia.
The design team includes Brett Banakis (scenic design), Anita Yavich (costume design), Scott Zielinski (lighting design), Kevin O’Donnell (sound design), Austin Switser (projection design), and Rick Sordelet (fight direction).
During Mee's 2007-2008 residence at Signature, his plays Iphigenia 2.0, Queens Bouelvard (the musical), and Paradise Park were produced.
