The new film will be created by Oprah Winfrey’s OWN.
Recent After Midnight star Toni Braxton will headline a new biopic about pop vocalist Darlene Love, Oprah Winfrey's OWN network has announced. The project, which is titled My Name Is Love: The Darlene Love Story, is set to premiere in December.
My Name Is Love, which shares a title with Love's 1998 biography, follows the singer from her early years being mentored by and singing backup for Phil Spector. The film will mark OWN's first scripted television movie. The film will be shepherded by American filmmaker Morgan Neville.
Love's Broadway career has included roles in Leader of the Pack, Carrie, Grease, and Hairspray.
In addition to her recent stint in After Midnight, Braxton's Broadway credits include Beauty and the Beast and Aida. Braxton, best known as a recording artist, has won six Grammy Awards. Her hit songs include "You're Makin' Me High" and "Unbreak My Heart."
