In the comedy, Astin will play translator to a non-English-speaking rookie.
Skylar Astin, star of the musical film Pitch Perfect and Broadway's Spring Awakening, has been cast in an as-yet untitled ABC pilot, according to Variety.
Astin has been cast as Jason, a teaching assistant living in his parents’ basement who’s tapped by an NBA manager to become a translator for a talented recruit from Botswana. Billed as a buddy comedy, this NBA-themed show follows Jason as he's thrust into the company of pro-basketball giants.
Dan Fogelman, Aaron Kaplan, Mike Tollin, Peter Gruber, David Windsor, and Casey Johnson produce, and the NBA is officially attached to the project. It will be directed by John Fortenberry.
Though as far as we know Astin has no plans to return to Broadway, he reprises his Pitch Perfect role opposite Anna Kendrick in Pitch Perfect 2, which will hit theaters this spring.
