Broadway's Allegiance, Starring George Takei, Is Heading to Cinemas

The new musical, inspired by Takei’s childhood experiences in a Japanese internment camp, will play nationwide.

The recent Broadway production of the new musical Allegiance, starring George Takei (Star Trek, Heroes) will come to movie theaters nationwide for one night on December 13 at 7:30pm local time. George Takei’s Allegiance: The Broadway Musical on the Big Screen will begin with an exclusive introduction from Takei and also feature behind-the-scenes footage as well as interviews with the cast and creators.

Along with Takei, Lea Salonga and Telly Leung head the cast of the show, which is inspired by Takei's childhood experiences in a Japanese internment camp in World War II. The musical features a book by Marc Acito, with music and lyrics by Jay Kuo. Olivier Award nominee Stafford Arima directs.

Joining Takei, Salonga, and Leung in the company are Katie Rose Clarke, Michael K. Lee, Christopheren Nomura, Greg Watanabe, Aaron J. Albano, Belinda Allyn, Marcus Choi, Janelle Dote, Dan Horn, Owen Johnston, Darren Lee, Kevin Munhall, Manna Nichols, Autumn Ogawa, Rumi Oyama, Momoko Sugai, Sam Tanabe, Elena Wang, Scott Watanabe, and Scott Wise.

The production features musical supervisor, arrangements, and orchestrations by Lynne Shankel, musical direction by Laura Bergquist, scenic design by Donyale Werle, costume design by Alejo Vietti, lighting design by Howell Binkley, and sound design by Kai Harada.

Allegiance began its run at Broadway's Longacre Theatre on October 6 and opened on November 8. It closed on February 14 after 37 previews and 113 regular performances.
