The little tramp is set to hit the road. The new bio-musical Chaplin, currently playing on Broadway at the Barrymore Theatre, will embark on a national tour beginning fall 2014 with a possible international tour to follow, according to the show’s producers. Casting and creative team for the tour have not yet been announced.
The musical charts the rise and fall of legendary silent film actor/director Charlie Chaplin (played on Broadway by Rob McClure) from his early days in the slums of London through his success in Hollywood, his many love affairs and marriages, and his eventual exile from the United States amidst charges of being a Communist.
The show features music and lyrics by Christopher Curtis and book by three-time Tony Award-winner Thomas Meehan (Annie) and Curtis. Drama Desk Award nominee Warren Carlyle (Finian’s Rainbow) directs and choreographs the production.
