Last of the Red Hot Lovers follows Barney Cashman (Gelber) who, in the midst of both the 1969 sexual revolution and a midlife crisis, borrows his mother’s empty apartment for a series of romantic rendezvous. The play originally opened on Broadway in December 1969 at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in a production starring James Coco, Linda Lavin, Doris Roberts, and Marcia Rodd, where it received four Tony Award nominations, including one for Best Play.
