Mike Bartlett’s drama will come to Shakespeare Theatre Company.
The regional premiere of Mike Bartlett's Olivier Award-winning King Charles III will take place at Washington, D.C.'s Shakespeare Theatre Company during its 2016-17 season.
The work will be directed by David Muse and presented in association with American Conservatory Theater and Seattle Repertory Theatre. The "future history play" is set following the death of Queen Elizabeth II as Prince Charles is about to ascend the throne and become king.
The season will also include Marsha Norman and Lucy Simon's classic musical The Secret Garden, which will be directed by David Armstrong as a coproduction of Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre. The Select, Elevator Repair Service's adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises, will play the company under the direction of John Collins.
Shakespeare productions include Romeo and Juliet directed by Alan Paul, Macbeth directed by Liesl Tommy, and The Tempest directed by Ethan McSweeny. Thomas Middleton's Women Beware Women directed by Michael Kahn is also on the lineup.
Casting, dates, and additional information about each production will be announced in the coming months.
