Broadway's Oklahoma! Revival Joins New Gun Neutral Initiative

The upcoming revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! has joined the entertainment industry's Gun Neutral initiative, a new effort to explore ways entertainment companies, individual productions, and storytellers can help solve prevalent issues of gun violence.

For every visible gun that is seen onstage in Daniel Fish's upcoming revival of the musical at the Circle in the Square Theatre, the production will make a donation to the Gun Neutral 501c3 for the benefit of organizations working to destroy illegal firearms that should be out of circulation. Gun Neutral will also use the funds to make grants to organizations that provide arts and STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) programming to youth in underserved areas, and particularly those impacted by chronic gun violence.

Inspired by Fish's 2015 production at Bard College, this reimagined Oklahoma! was produced at St. Ann's Warehouse last fall. The intimate production brings audiences and artists together and makes this classic musical feel as though it were written for today's America. The production has no chorus, a seven-piece band, a theater repurposed as a community social hall, and chili shared by the audience and actors at intermission. Casting is still to be announced.
