Broadway's Starry Real Thing Announces More Casting

The Tom Stoppard revival also features Maggie Gyllenhaal and Cynthia Nixon.

More casting has been announced for Roundabout Theatre Company's upcoming revival of Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing, to be directed by Sam Gold at the American Airlines Theatre. The production is scheduled to begin performances October 2, with opening night set for October 30.

Joining the previously announced Ewan McGregor, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Cynthia Nixon, and Josh Hamilton are Alex Breaux as Brodie and Madeline Weinstein as Debbie. Final casting will be revealed in the coming weeks.

The creative team includes David Zinn (set design), Kaye Voyce (costume design), Mark Barton (lighting design), and Bray Poor (sound design).

The Real Thing, which won a Tony Award for Best Play when it premiered on Broadway in 1984, follows Henry (McGregor), a playwright unhappily married to the leading actress in his play, which is about a collapsing marriage. When Henry begins an affair with their friend Annie (Gyllenhaal), life begins to imitate art. When Annie leaves her own husband to start a new life with Henry, he must decide whether their love is real.
