Jessica Hecht, Jeremy Shamos, and now two-time Tony Award winner Judith Light lead the company of the new work, which is set on Christmas Eves in 1980 and 2000. As an Upper West Side Jewish family gathers for dinner, a house guest insinuates himself into the dynamic and ends up becoming a bigger part of their lives than anyone expected. The company also includes Mark Blum, Jonathan Walker, Jake Silbermann, Lauren Blumenfeld, and Alex Dreier.
Light received 2013 Tony and Drama Desk Awards for her performance and became the first actress in nearly two decades to win consecutive Tony Awards. The Assembled Parties was nominated for three 2013 Tony Awards, including Best Play and Best Scenic Design of a Play (Santo Loquasto). It received four Drama Desk nominations and three Drama League nominations. The production officially opened on April 17.
The creative team for The Assembled Parties includes Santo Loquasto (scenic design), Jane Greenwood (costume design), Peter Kaczorowski (lighting design), Obadiah Eaves (original music & sound design), and Tom Watson (hair and wig design).
