”Whorl Inside a Loop” follows a well-known actress as she begins teaching a group of inmates how to tell their stories.
Whorl Inside a Loop, a new play by Dick Scanlan and Sherie Rene Scott, celebrated its opening night at Second Stage Theatre on August 27. Codirected by Scanlan and Michael Mayer, the production reunites the team behind Scott's acclaimed semiautobiographical musical Everyday Rapture.
Whorl Inside a Loop follows a well-regarded actress (Scott) who agrees to teach six inmates how to tell their stories while behind bars. Sharing intimate and sometimes hilarious details of their former lives, this unlikely group forms a bond — even as the actress' life outside spins out of control. And when what happens in prison doesn't stay there, no one is sure whom to trust. Andre Kelly, Marvin Lewis, Felix Machado, Richard Norat, and Jeffrey Rivera provided additional material for the script.
In addition to Scott, the cast features Derrick Baskin (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), Nicholas Christopher (Motown), Chris Myers (Soho Rep.'s An Octoroon), Ryan Quinn (King Lear), Daniel J. Watts (In the Heights), and Donald Webber Jr. (Motown).
