Jennings will star in Scott Ellis’ revival of the classic musical.
Drama Desk Award winner Byron Jennings (Stuff Happens) will join Tony winner Laura Benanti and Zachary Levi in Roundabout Theatre Company's upcoming Broadway revival of She Loves Me. Jennings replaces the previously announced René Auberjonois, who was to play Maraczek and has departed the company for personal reasons.
Benanti and Levi lead the company as Amalia and Georg, a pair of perfume-shop coworkers engaged in a battle of wits who unknowingly become romantic pen pals. They are joined in the principal company by Gavin Creel (Kodaly), Michael McGrath (Sipos), Jane Krakowski (Ilona), Nicholas Barasch (Arpad), and Peter Bartlett (Head Waiter). The ensemble is made up of Cameron Adams, Alison Cimmet, Justin Bowen, Preston Truman Boyd, Benjamin Eakeley, Sara Edwards, Michael Fatica, Gina Ferrall, Jenifer Foote, Andrew Kober, Laura Shoop, and Jim Walton.
Featuring a score by Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock and a book by Joe Masteroff, She Loves Me is inspired by the play Parfumerie by Miklós László, which also served as the inspiration for the films The Shop Around the Corner and You've Got Mail.
Scott Ellis directs the Broadway production, which features choreography by Warren Carlyle and musical direction by Paul Gemignani. The creative team includes David Rockwell (sets), Jeff Mahshie (costumes), Don Holder (lights), Jon Weston (sound), Larry Hochman (orchestrations), and David Krane (dance arrangements and incidental music).
Performances begin February 19 at Studio 54, with opening night set to take place March 17. The closing date for the limited engagement is June 5.
