Scott Ellis directs Roundabout Theatre Company’s world premiere production of Lindsey Ferrentino’s play.
The cast and company of Roundabout Theatre Company's Amy and the Orphans met the press today as rehearsals move forward for Lindsey Ferrentino's play, set to begin performances February 1. Performances will be at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre with opening night scheduled for March 1 and performances running through April 22.
Scott Ellis directs the cast of Vanessa Aspillaga, Mark Blum, Diane Davis, Josh McDermitt, Debra Monk, Edward Barbanell, and Jamie Brewer in the world-premiere production.
Brewer takes on the role of Amy, a woman with Down syndrome who helps her family deal with their father's death. As they drive down the Long Island Expressway, an unexpected turn reveals the moment that changed their lives. Brewer, best known for her performances as Addie on American Horror Story: Murder House and Nan in American Horror Story: Coven, worked with Ellis and Ferrentino on readings of the play dating back to 2015. She is also the first woman with Down syndrome to walk at New York Fashion Week.
The creative team includes Rachel Hauck (scenic design), Alejo Vietti (costume design), Kenneth Posner (lighting design), and John Gromada (sound and original compositions).
