Casting has been announced for Ripe Time’s world premiere of writer-director Rachel Dickstein’s Fire Throws, to play 3LD Art & Technology Center, February 18-March 28, with an opening set for February 22.
Based on Sophocles’ Antigone, the production utilizes video projection, live music, and dance-inspired staging, and features two Antigones: the one we know from the original story and the 2400-year-old symbol she has become, looking back on her story and searching for the person inside the icon.
The production will star John Campion as Creon, Erica Berg and Laura Butler as the dual Antigones, and Juliana Francis Kelly as Teiresias (on film). The cast will also include Kiepboli Calnek, Kimiye Corwin, Paula McGonagle, Leajato Amara Robinson, Jorge Rubio, and Caesar Samayoa.
The creative team will include Susan Zeeman Rogers (set), Oana Botez-Ban (costumes), Tyler Micoleau (lighting), Jane Shaw (sound), and Maya Ciarrocchi (video/projections). Jewlia Eisenberg’s original score — written for vocal trio, winds, cello, gamelan, and percussion — will be performed live by the ensemble Charming Hostess.
