The production will open this spring at Astoria Performing Arts Center.
Astoria Performing Arts Center has announced casting for its upcoming production of Merrily We Roll Along, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by George Furth. Directed by Artistic Director Dev Bondarin, the run will begin April 30 at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and play through May 23.
The cast will include Alex Akin as Dory, Ally Bonino as Mary, Joe Bowen as Mr. Spencer, LilyAnn Carlson as Gussie, Joanna Carpenter as KT, Christopher Darrin as Frank Jr., Audrey Heffernan Meyer as Mrs. Spencer, Luke Hoback as Tyler, Greg Horton as Joe, Kevin Ray Johnson as Bunker, Jack Mosbacher as Frank, Jay Paranada as Scotty, Nicholas Park as Charley, Jason Pintar as RU, Rachel Rhodes-Devey as Beth, Anne Wechsler as Meg, and Matt Welsh as Jerome.
Based on the 1934 play of the same title by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, Merrily We Roll Along examines the friendship of musical theater songwriter Franklin Shepard, his writing partner Charlie Kringas, and aspiring author Mary Flynn. The show begins at the height of Franklin's fame in 1976 and moves backward in time through 1957 to explore how he got to where he is.
The musical will be choreographed by Misha Shields with musical direction by Ming Aldrich-Gan.
