The new drama is written by Lisa Loomer.
Berkeley Repertory Theatre has announced its production of Lisa Loomer's Roe, directed by Bill Rauch. Previews begin March 3, with the run concluding on April 2.
The drama focuses on the two women at the heart of the landmark Roe v. Wade case — plaintiff Norma McCorvey and her attorney Sarah Weddington — and documents their shockingly divergent journeys following the case, that would come to mirror the polarization in American culture.
The company is made up of Jim Abele (Ron Weddington/Jay Floyd/Flip Benham), Sarah Jane Agnew (Sarah Weddington), Kenya Alexander (Roxanne), Mark Bedard (Henry McCluskey/Robert Flowers/Abortion Doctor), Zoe Bishop (Melissa/Emily), Sara Bruner (Norma McCorvey), Catherine Castellanos (Ofelia/Connie Gonzalez), Gina Daniels (Aileen/Barbara/Uma/Third Pregnant Woman), Pamela Dunlap (Molly/Mary), Richard Elmore (Doctor Kennedy/Henry Wade/Justice Blackmun), Susan Lynskey (Linda Coffee/Judy/First Pregnant Woman/Peggy), and Amy Newman (Helen/Second Pregnant Woman/Ronda).
Roe is a coproduction with Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Berkeley Repertory Theatre.
The creative team for Roe includes scenic designer Rachel Hauck, costume designer Raquel Barreto, lighting designer Jane Cox, composer and sound designer Paul James Prendergast, and projection designer Wendall K. Harrington.
