The Tony Award-winning Best Musical begins performances this evening.
A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder starts its run tonight at the Ahmanson Theatre.
Monty Navarro is determined to inherit his family’s fortune. The only problem is he’s not next in line, or even the one after that. Determined to jump the line of succession, he decides to use any means necessary to achieve his goal. In the meantime, he has to keep his mistress happy (and she’s after more than just love), his fiancée (who happens to be his cousin) appeased, and avoid jail. But if he can slay his way to an inheritance before tea time, it will all be worth it.
Darko Tresnjak directs the show, which freatures book and lyrics by Robert L. Freedman and music and lyrics by Steven Lutvak. Leading the cast is John Rapson as the eight D’Ysquith heirs and Kevin Massey as Monty Navarro. Alongside them are Kristen Beth Williams as Sibella Hallward, Adrienne Eller as Phoebe D’Ysquith, and Mary VanArsdel as Miss Shingle.
The creative team includes Alexander Dodge (set design), Linda Cho (costume design), Philip S. Rosenberg (lighting design), Dan Moses Schreier (sound design), Aaron Rhyne (projection design), Charles LaPointe (wig design), and Brian Strumwasser (makeup design).
Performances will run through May 1.
