Chicago playwright Brett Neveu’s new play will open off-Broadway this summer.
Chicago's A Red Orchid Theatre has announced the New York transfer of its 2012 world premiere production of Brett Neveu's The Opponent, directed by Karen Kessler. Produced by AROT in association with Bisno Productions, the show will come to 59E59 Theaters this summer from July 31-September 7.
The Opponent takes a look at the world of boxing from the contrary perspectives of small-time Baton Rouge gym owner/trainer Tre and the young up-and-comer Donell. The play examines questions of loyalty and life's dreams, both of which are put to the test. The production will feature original cast members Kamal Angelo Bolden and Guy Van Swearingen.
"With A Red Orchid NYC, we look forward to establishing a national presence, raising our profile through new media outlets, and broadening our artistic network as well as our base of contributed support among new and existing friends on the East Coast," says Artistic Director Kirsten Fitzgerald. "We have partnered with New York-based Bisno Productions and we envision this journey from Chicago to be the first of many."
