On Monday, March 17, Red Bull Theater will offer a one-night-only staged concert reading of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's Happy End, translated by TheaterMania contributor Michael Feingold.
A follow-up to the legendary pair's Threepenny Opera, the musical comedy follows army preacher Lillian Holiday who tries to concert head gangster Bill Cracker. The show features several popular musical numbers including "Surabaya-Johnny," "The Sailor's Tango," and "The Bilbao Song."
The cast includes Nancy Anderson (Far From Heaven), J. Bernard Calloway (All the Way), Carson Elrod (Peter and the Starcatcher), Steven Eng (Pacific Overtures), Tom Hewitt (Jesus Christ Superstar), Matthew Maher (Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play) , Karen Mason (Wonderland), Martin Moran (A Man's a Man), Alexandra Silber (Arlington), Price Waldman (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder), Emily Young (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), Kristine Zbornik (A Catered Affair), and Chip Zien (The Big Knife).
Leigh Silverman will direct with music direction by James Cunningham.
