Red Bull Theater has announced plans for its 2016-17 season, which will include William Shakespeare’s Coriolanus and a new version of Nikolai Gogol’s The Government Inspector.

Directed by Michael Sexton, Coriolanus will run from October 18-November 20, with opening night on October 30 at the Barrow Street Theatre. Sexton's staging is described as a "visceral new production [that] will spark an electric dramatic dialogue between actors and audiences." The cast as well as the design team, will be announced shortly.

The Government Inspector, directed by Jesse Berger, will open in spring 2017 at a theater to be announced. This New York premiere of Jeffrey Hatcher’s adaptation of Gogol's satire is "a hilarious reminder of the timelessness of bureaucracy and buffoonery." Cast and design team are to be announced.

Red Bull has also announced a special benefit production of Molière’s Tartuffe to kick off the 2016-17 season on October 10 at Symphony Space. The one-night reading of a translation by Richard Wilbur will be directed by Marc Vietor. Tartuffe is set to star Dana Ivey, Bill Camp, and Reg Rogers, along with Christian DeMarais, Gretchen Hall, Naomi Lorrain, Ben Mehl, and Derek Smith, among others. An exclusive party with cast and special guests will follow the benefit reading.

In addition, a new season of the Revelation Readings series will feature Kristine Nielsen (Vanya and Sonya and Masha and Spike), Matthew Rauch (Banshee), Derek Smith (The Lion King), Christian DeMarais, Gretchen Hall, Ryan Garbayo (Loot), Ben Mehl, Amelia Pedlow (′Tis Pity She's a Whore), Carson Elrod (Peter and the Starcatcher), and more.

Next summer will bring Red Bull’s seventh annual Short New Play Festival (July 24), which includes new works of heightened language and classical themes from today’s top established and emerging playwrights. Inspired this year by the theme of "Delusions of Grandeur," these scribes will conjure wildly diverse tales, catapulting classical theater into the future. Craig Baldwin and Evan Yionoulis will direct.
