Cry-Baby, a new musical based on the 1990 John Waters film of the same title, will begin performances on Broadway in March 2008, at a theater to be announced. It will premiere at the La Jolla Playhouse, November 6-December 16. The show will be directed by Mark Brokaw, with choreography by Rob Ashford. No casting has been announced.

Featuring a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan and a score by David Javerbaum and Adam Schlesinger, this spoof of 1950s films is set in 1954 Baltimore, where Wade “Cry Baby” Walker, the baddest boy in town, falls for a local good girl.

Brokaw’s previous Broadway credits include Reckless and The Constant Wife, and he won a Drama Desk Award for the Vineyard Theatre production of How I Learned to Drive. Ashford won the Tony Award for Thoroughly Modern Millie and earned Tony nominations for his work on Curtains and The Wedding Singer.
