Dana Ivey Will Star in Reading of Michael Feingold’s Shakespeare-Inspired Textual Relations

Drama Desk Award winner Dana Ivey will appear in a one-night-only reading of TheaterMania contributor Michael Feingold’s play, Textual Relations, on January 6, 2014, at The Pearl Theatre Company. The evening serves as part of The Acting Company’s John McDonald Salon Readings, which offers audiences the opportunity to see rarely produced plays performed by New York stage stars.

Subtitled “a literary caprice,” Feingold describes the play as “the comic collision, in a fantasy afterlife, of the three people who did most to establish the theory that somebody else wrote Shakespeare's plays.” He was inspired to write it after reviewing Professor James Shapiro's excellent book Contested Will: Who Wrote Shakespeare?

Ivey will read the key role of Delia Bacon, who in the early 19th century launched the theory that Sir Francis Bacon had composed the plays and left secret messages in cipher in their texts to confirm his authorship.

Two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist Feingold, formerly chief theater critic of The Village Voice newspaper, is a playwright, dramaturg, and translator whose notable works include the American translation of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill’s Happy End, Threepenny Opera, and Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny.

Feingold joined TheaterMania in June 2013 to pen the bimonthly column “Thinking About Theater.”
