Quiara Alegría Hudes’ new play is directed by ”Hamilton”’s Thomas Kail at Signature Theatre.
Signature Theatre Company has announced a one-week extension for its upcoming world premiere of Daphne’s Dive, written by Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegría Hudes. Directed by Thomas Kail (Hamilton), the production will now run from April 26-June 12 at the Pershing Square Signature Center. Opening night is set for May 15.
Daphne's Dive is a cheap corner bar in North Philly where Daphne and her vibrant, eclectic regulars drink to art, politics, and life. As Daphne's adopted daughter, who is very different from her reserved and pragmatic mother, grows up, this unconventional family is forced to confront who's an insider, who's an outsider, and the challenge of opening your heart to strangers.
SAG Award winner Samira Wiley (Orange Is the New Black) and Tony nominee Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent) star in the production, which also features Vanessa Aspillaga (Domesticated), Carlos Gomes (The Glades), K.K. Moggie (Mercy), Matthew Saldivar (Act One), and Tony nominee Gordon Joseph Weiss (Fool for Love).
The design team includes Donyale Werle (scenic design), Toni-Leslie James (costume design), Betsy Adams (lighting design), Nevin Steinberg (sound design), and Michel Camilo composer).
