Joining Hyde Pierce and Weaver in the Chekhov-inspired comedy will be the entire off-Broadway cast, which includes Obie Award winner Kristine Nielsen (Betty’s Summer Vacation), Billy Magnussen (The Ritz), Shalita Grant (The Merchant of Venice), and Genevieve Angelson (Camino Real). They also appeared in the work’s pre-New York production at the McCarter Theatre in New Jersey.
Riffing on Uncle Vanya, The Seagull, and the other classic plays of Anton Chekhov, the comedy follows the sullen Vanya (Hyde Pierce) and his adopted sister Sonia (Nielsen), as they endure a visit from their movie-star sister Masha (Weaver) and her new boy toy, Spike (Magnussen). A prophesy-sprouting cleaning woman (Grant) and a youthful visitor named Nina (Angelson) throw the visit into even more of a tailspin. Durang’s plays include The Marriage of Bette and Boo, Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All For You, Miss Witherspoon, Sex and Longing, and Beyond Therapy, among others.
The creative team will feature David Korins (scenic design), Emily Rebholz (costume design), Justin Townsend (lighting design), and Mark Bennett (original music and sound design). Joey Parnes, Larry Hirschhorn, and John O’Boyle produce the transfer in association with the McCarter Theatre and Lincoln Center Theater.
