The record-breaking musical finds its New Jersey cast at Paper Mill Playhouse.
Paper Mill Playhouse has announced the cast and creative team for its upcoming production of The Producers, running from September 28-October 23.
Leading the company are David Josefsberg (An Act of God) as Leo Bloom and Michael Kostroff (The Wire) as Max Bialystock. Also featured in the cast are Ashley Spencer (Rock of Ages) as Ulla, Kevin Pariseau (Legally Blonde) as Roger De Bris, Mark Price (Mary Poppins) as Carmen Ghia, and John Treacy Egan (Broadway's The Producers) as Franz Liebkind.
Don Stephenson and Bill Burns will re-create Susan Stroman's original direction and choreography, respectively. The Producers features music and lyrics by Mel Brooks and a book by Brooks and Thomas Meehan. James P. Moore serves as the production's music director.
Based on the 1968 film, the musical follows two theatrical producers who scheme to get rich by overselling interests in a Broadway flop. Complications arise when the show unexpectedly turns out to be successful. The original 2001 Broadway production earned a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards.
The Paper Mill Playhouse creative team includes original scenic design by Robin Wagner, scenic coordination by David Peterson, original costume design by William Ivey Long, costume coordination by Martha Bromelmeier, lighting design by John Lasiter, sound design by Randy Hansen, hair and wig design by Paul Huntley, and makeup design by Angelina Avallone.
