Producer Stacey Mindich announced this morning that this year's Tony-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen recouped its production costs in just 8.5 months on Broadway. Capitalized at $9.5 million, Dear Evan Hansen began performances at the Music Box Theatre on November 14, 2016, in advance of a December 4 opening.

"This show has been a labor of love for everyone involved – some of us for more than eight years," producer Stacey Mindich said in a statement. "On behalf of the Dear Evan Hansen family, I can say that we are deeply grateful for our audiences and the way they embrace this show, from Washington, D.C., off-Broadway, and now Broadway in such a profound way."

With a score by Oscar winners Pasek and Paul, and a book by Steven Levenson, Dear Evan Hansen is described as follows: "All his life Evan Hansen has felt invisible. To his peers, to the girl he loves, sometimes even to his own mother. But that was before he wrote the letter — that led to the incident— that started the lie — that ignited a movement – that inspired a community — and changed Evan's status from the ultimate outsider into the somebody everyone wants to know. But how long can Evan keep his secret? And at what price?"

The cast is led by Tony winner Ben Platt alongside Laura Dreyfuss, Tony nominee Mike Faist, Tony winner Rachel Bay Jones, Kristolyn Lloyd, Michael Park, Will Roland, and Tony nominee Jennifer Laura Thompson. The production earned a total of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book.
