The national tour of Dear Evan Hansen celebrated opening night during its run at Denver's Buell Theatre at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. The celebrations were held at the Seawell Grand Ballroom on October 5. Performances continue in Denver until October 13, when the production will move to Los Angeles's Ahmanson Theatre.
Leading the tour is Ben Levi Ross as Evan Hansen and Jessica Phillips as Heidi Hansen. They are joined by Tony Award nominee Christiane Noll as Cynthia Murphy, Aaron Lazar as Larry Murphy, Marrick Smith as Connor Murphy, Maggie McKenna as Zoe Murphy, Jared Goldsmith as Jared Kleinman, and Phoebe Koyabe as Alana Beck. Stephen Christopher Anthony will be the Evan alternate, and Noah Kieserman, Ciara Alyse Harris, John Hemphill, Jane Pfitsch, Coleen Sexton, and Maria Wirries are the understudies.
The tour will play more than 50 cities over a two-year period, including the aforementioned Ahmanson Theatre, San Francisco (the Curran), Las Vegas (the Smith Center), Chicago (Oriental Theatre), Atlanta (the Fox Theatre), Boston (the Boston Opera House), and more. In addition, Dear Evan Hansen will launch its first international production in Canada in March 2019 at Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theatre.
With a Tony-winning score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and a Tony-winning book by Steven Levenson, Dear Evan Hansen is described as follows: "A letter that was never meant to be seen, a lie that was never meant to be told, a life he never dreamed he could have. Evan Hansen is about to get the one thing he's always wanted: a chance to finally fit in."
