The marquee for Andrew Lloyd Webber's School of Rock musical has gone up at Broadway's Winter Garden Theatre, and who was on hand to welcome it? Demeter from Cats, of course. (Cats, for those of you don't remember, was Lloyd Webber's last meowsical at the Winter Garden, and it might be returning to Broadway next season.)
Performances of School of Rock are set to begin on November 9 in advance of a December 6 opening. Directed by Laurence Connor, the musical features a score by Lloyd Webber and Glenn Slater and a book by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, with Alex Brightman and Sierra Boggess leading the cast.
School of Rock tells the story of down-on-his-luck wannabe rock star Dewey Finn, who poses as a substitute teacher at a prep school and enlists his fifth graders to form a rock group and conquer Battle of the Bands. The film was directed by Richard Linklater and written by Mike White.
