Hollywood icon Denzel Washington will receive the 2016 Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards, to be held on January 10 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

"Washington’s long and storied career is earmarked by his countless roles in front and behind the camera," Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Lorenzo Soria said in a statement. "It is the HFPA’s privilege to honor his contributions to the entertainment industry with the Cecil B. DeMille Award."

Washington received Golden Globes for his performances in the films Glory and The Hurricane. He received Oscars for his work in Glory and Training Day, and a Tony Award for his performance in the 2010 Broadway revival of Fences. Also on Broadway, Washington has starred in Checkmates, Julius Caesar, and A Raisin in the Sun. He is in the process of turning the 10 plays of August Wilson's Century Cycle into films.

Past DeMille Award recipients include Broadway vets Morgan Freeman, Woody Allen, Anthony Hopkins, Robin Williams, Al Pacino, and Barbra Streisand.
