The ”American Idol” alum will perform a score of 1950s pop hits.
American Idol and Hairspray alum Diana DeGarmo will join the cast of The Marvelous Wonderettes at the Kirk Theatre at Theatre Row from May 25-July 31. She takes on the role of Suzy Simpson, the lovable, bubble-blowing Wonderette who sings such hits as "Stupid Cupid," "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me," "Rescue Me," and "Respect."
DeGarmo says, "I am excited and honored for the chance to sing the music of the iconic women I grew up idolizing, alongside three fabulous and funny gals in The Marvelous Wonderettes. We are gonna have one heck on a time and y'all won't want to miss it!"
Created, written, and originally directed by Roger Bean, the previous New York production played at the West Side Theatre from September 2008-January 2010. The story is set in 1958 at the Springfield High School prom where we meet "The Wonderettes," four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts. We experience their lives and loves from prom night to their 10-year reunion as told through more than 20 chart-topping hits of the era.
The cast currently features Christina Bianco (Application Pending) as Missy, Jenna Leigh Green (Sabrina the Teenage Witch) as Cindy Lou, Sally Schwab (A Broadway Diva Christmas) as Betty Jean, and Laura Woyasz (Wicked) rounding out the cast as the "Wonderstudy."
