New York City
The Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway hit begins performances tonight.
Disgraced, by Ayad Akhtar, starts its run tonight at the Goodman Theatre.
Amir Kapoor is the poster child for the American Dream. The price of forsaking his upbringing is a beautiful wife, a luxurious Manhattan apartment, and even a potentially lucrative promotion at a powerful law firm. With everything going well, he has no reason to second-guess his decision. However, when he hosts a dinner party for his African American coworker and her Jewish husband, everything Amir has worked hard to erase comes to the surface in an explosive argument about race, religion, and class in the modern world.
Ayad Akhtar’s play is directed by Kimberly Senior, and it features Behzad Dabu as Abe, J. Anthony Crane as Isaac, Nisi Sturgis as Emily, Bernard White as Amir, and Zakiya Young as Jory.
The creative team includes John Lee Beatty (set design), Jennifer Von Mayrhauser (costume design), Christine A. Binder (lighting design), Jill DuBoff (sound design), and Joseph Drummond (stage manager).
Performances will run through October 18.
