New York City
Now’s your chance. You could be the next Jack Black.
School of Rock, the new Broadway musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Glenn Slater, and Julian Fellowes, is searching for its leading actors, and one of them could be you.
The production is hosting a coast-to-coast talent search for pint-size rock stars, as well as leading man Dewey Finn. A casting call for children will take place on January 24 onstage at the Winter Garden Theatre, where the musical will begin performances on November 2. Additional open casting calls for young performers will take place at Screenland Studios in Los Angeles on January 17 and at Chicago's Actor's Equity Association headquarters on January 24. Open calls begin at 10am local time, with sign-in at 9am.
An open casting call for the role of Dewey will take place in Los Angeles on January 18 at 2pm. Those who play instruments, both adults and children, should bring them along and be prepared to perform a rock tune. Drummers are encouraged to bring their sticks.
Inspired by the 2003 film that starred Jack Black, School of Rock — The Musical tells the story of a down-on-his-luck wannabe rock star named Dewey Finn, who poses as a substitute teacher at a prep school and enlists his fifth-graders to form a rock group and conquer Battle of the Bands. The film was directed by Richard Linklater and written by Mike White.
The production, directed by Laurence Connor, opens on December 6. School of Rock will feature choreography by JoAnn M. Hunter, scenic and costume design by Anna Louizos, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Mick Potter, and music supervision by Ethan Popp. The Really Useful Group, Warner Music Group & Access Industries, The Shubert Organization, and The Nederlander Organization serve as producers, with Nina Lannan as executive producer.
