Nyong’o is a 2016 Tony nominee for her performance in Danai Gurira’s drama.
Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o, who is a 2016 Tony Award nominee for her performance in Danai Gurira's Eclipsed at the John Golden Theatre, received a Sardi's caricature on May 19.
Written by Danai Gurira, Eclipsed takes a look at the Liberian Civil War from the perspective of women held captive by a Liberian rebel officer. With the arrival of a new woman who can read, and the return of an old one who can kill, their possibilities are quickly transformed. Liesl Tommy directs the production, which played a sold-out run at the Public Theater in 2015.
Nyong'o won an Oscar for her performance in the film 12 Years a Slave. She earned Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations for her performance in Gurira's Eclipsed.
