Studio Tenn begins performances of Evita tonight at Tennessee Performing Arts Center.
Broadway's Eden Espinosa (Wicked) stars as Eva Perón opposite Tony winner Anthony Crivello (Kiss of the Spider Woman) as Juan Perón in Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical about the life story of activist, suffragist, and venerated celebrity Eva Perón. Perón captivated a nation as Argentina’s first lady, and inspired others with her dedication to helping the poor. The musical chronicles her life and work from her humble beginnings in the rural lowlands of South America, through her ascent to fame and fortune, to her untimely death.
Joining Espinosa and Crivello are Ben Crawford (Broadway's Les Misérables) as Che, René Millán (Broadway's The Wild Party) as Magaldi, and Mia Rose Lynne (Fiddler on the Roof) as Perón's Mistress. Matt Logan, artistic director of Studio Tenn, directs.
Jake Speck, Studio Tenn’s managing director, said, "It is an incredible honor and a milestone point of pride to be working with Anthony Crivello, who rarely performs outside Broadway. His name and accolades serve to elevate even further this already high-profile, nationally relevant production. With three Broadway veterans alongside two Nashville-based singer/songwriters in lead roles, our Evita cast exemplifies the convergence of world-class talent that is uniquely possible here in Music City."
Performances will run through September 18.
