Eshan Bay, Sheldon Best, and More to Star in Alan Sillitoe’s The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner at Atlantic Theater Company

Roy Williams’ stage adaptation of Sillitoe’s beloved short story will be directed by Leah C. Gardiner.

Atlantic Theater Company has announced that Eshan Bay, Sheldon Best, Zainab Jah, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Patrick Murney, Joshua E. Nelson, Sydney Sainté, Raviv Ullman, Todd Weeks, and Malik Yoba will comprise the cast of its upcoming production of Alan Sillitoe’s The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner. The production will play Atlantic Theater Company’s Stage 2 from January 8-February 9, with an opening on January 21.

This American premiere production of British playwright Roy Williams’ stage adaptation of the short story will be directed by Leah C. Gardiner. Williams’ version brings the young, defiant Colin Smith into the 21st century. The story follows Colin as he finds himself in a prison school for criminal activity, and turns to long distance running as an escape.

The design team will feature scenic design by Lauren Helpern, costume design by Bobby Frederick Tilley II, lighting design by Michael Chybowski, sound design by Bart Fasbender, and projection design by Pauline Lu and Paul Piekarz.
