Ethan McSweeny Named Artistic Director of American Shakespeare Center

The American Shakespeare Center has named Ethan McSweeny as its new artistic director.

A freelance director who has worked on Broadway, off-Broadway, and abroad, McSweeny succeeds Jim Warren, who cofounded the organization almost 30 years ago and stepped down at the end of 2017.

McSweeny's Broadway credits include The Best Man and A Time to Kill, with off-Broadway premieres including Kate Fodor's Rx and 100 Saints You Should Know, as well as John Logan's Never the Sinner. He served 12 years on the executive board of SDC, the labor union representing Stage Directors and Choreographers, and served as co-artistic director of the Chautauqua Theater Company for eight years.
