Everett Quinton to Discuss 50 Years of Ridiculous Theater at Conquest of the Universe

Fifty years ago, an epic collision of queens led to the formation of one of the brightest stars in the off-off-Broadway firmament: Charles Ludlam's Ridiculous Theatrical Company. This Sunday, audiences will have an opportunity to hear exactly how it happened.

Following the November 5 matinee of Ludlam's Conquest of the Universe or When Queens Collide, actor and director Everett Quinton will join TheaterMania chief critic Zachary Stewart on the stage of La MaMa's Ellen Stewart Theatre for a discussion of the show, the company's half-century history, and what the future holds for ridiculous theater. The event will include a brief question-and-answer session. For those unable to attend in person, the talkback will be streamed live on La MaMa's Facebook page.

Quinton served as artistic director of the Ridiculous Theatrical Company from 1987-97. Before that, he was an actor and designer for the company, as well as Ludlam's longtime partner. In addition to helming Conquest of the Universe at La MaMa, he recently directed a revival of Ludlam's The Artificial Jungle for Theater Breaking Through Barriers.
