”Light in the Piazza” vets pose in a very glamorous photoshoot for the upcoming MasterVoices production of ”Dido and Aeneas” at New York City Center.
Noted fashion designer Christian Siriano will dress Tony winners Kelli O'Hara and Victoria Clark in the upcoming MasterVoices production of the opera Dido and Aeneas. Conducted by Ted Sperling and featuring the orchestra of St. Luke's, the semi-staged concerts will take place April 28 and 29 at New York City Center.
First produced in the 1680s, the three-act Dido and Aeneas, based on Book IV of Virgil's Aeneid, features music by Henry Purcell and a libretto by Nahum Tate. The bill for the evening will also include the world premiere of a new prologue written by Michael John LaChiusa (First Daughter Suite). Doug Varone will directed and choreograph.
O'Hara will take on the role of Dido, with Clark as the Sorceress. The production reunites the pair, who were last seen onstage together in The Light in the Piazza, for which Sperling served as musical director. They will be joined by opera veterans Elliot Madore as Aeneas, Anna Christy as Belinda, and Sarah Mesko as Second Woman. David Korins will serve as scenic consultant.
The opera will be presented by MasterVoices, a new name for New York City's famed Collegiate Chorale, as part of its new partnership with City Center.
