The new tuner follows the ”Great Gatsby” writer through his literary coming-of-age.
Prospect Theater Company has announced complete casting for its upcoming production of The Underclassman, an original musical exploring F. Scott Fitzgerald’s coming-of-age as a writer on the eve of World War I as well as his first romance with the elusive debutante Ginevra King. Performances begin November 9 in advance of an official November 19 opening at the Duke on 42nd Street.
The production will star Matt Dengler (A Little Night Music) as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Jessica Grové (A Little Night Music) as Ginevra King, along with Piper Goodeve as Marie Hersey, Billy Hepfinger as Edmund Wilson, and Marrick Smith as John Peale Bishop. The ensemble includes Jordan Bondurant, Elizabeth Burton, Jason Edward Cook, Matt Gibson, Holland Grossman, Christopher Herr, Adam Machart, Drama Desk nominee Jeremy Morse (Bloodsong of Love), C.J. Pawlikowski, Davey Rosenberg, Michael Romeo Ruocco, Liz Shivener, Whitney Winfield, and Ian Fairlee.
The Underclassman features music and lyrics by Peter Mills and book by Mills and Cara Reichel. Reichel directs with choreography by Christine O’Grady and music direction and orchestrations by Daniel Feyer.
The design team includes Ann Bartek (sets), Sidney Shannon (costumes), Brian Tovar (lights), and Kevin Heard (sound).
