New York City
This classic performance of the iconic song is just as wonderful 49 years later.
It was a long hiatus but worth the wait — Bette Midler is back on Broadway in Hello, Dolly! and earlier this week, she earned her first Tony nomination for her performance as Dolly Levi. We saw her a few years ago in the solo play I'll Eat You Last: A Chat With Sue Mengers, but we haven't seen her in a full-scale musical since making her Broadway debut in the 1968 production of Fiddler on The Roof.
Here she sings alongside Mimi Turque and Tanya Everet in the classic song
"Matchmaker" at the 1968 Tony Awards. The fun continues after her performance with quick looks at Jill Haworth of Cabaret singing the show's titular song and Man of La Mancha star David Atkinson singing "The Impossible Dream."
Hopefully we get to see Bette strut her stuff again at this year's Tony Awards — and this time on Broadway, she is the matchmaker.
