Flashback Friday: Neil Patrick Harris Balladeered Assassins to the Tony Awards

Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman's Assassins is stopping at New York City Center for five performances only from July 12-15 as a patriotic kick-off to the summer Encores! Off-Center season.

The musical claimed its place as another Sondheim classic in 1990 when it premiered off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons. However, it didn't make its way to Broadway until 2004 where it earned seven Tony nominations, winning the award for Best Revival of a Musical, among others. The stellar cast of historical murderers was led by now-Tony winner Neil Patrick Harris as the Balladeer and Lee Harvey Oswald, alongside Becky Ann Baker (Sara Jane Moore), James Barbour (Leon Czolgosz), Mario Cantone (Samuel Byck), Michael Cerveris (John Wilkes Booth), Mary Catherine Garrison (Lynette "Squeaky'' Fromme), Alexander Gemignani (John Hinckley), Jeffrey Kuhn (Giuseppe Zangara), Denis O'Hare (Charles Guiteau), and Marc Kudisch (Proprietor).

Take a look at the stacked ensemble perform the final reprise of the ominous anthem "Everybody's Got the Right" at the 2004 Tony Awards. And for OG Assassins fans, you get the added bonus of watching the original off-Broadway Booth, Victor Garber, offer the cast a special introduction.
