New York City
You can see ”Chicago”, ”The Visit”, and ”Zorba!” all within two days in the City That Never Sleeps.
Three musicals by the legendary songwriting team of John Kander and the late Fred Ebb are running simultaneously in New York (New York) this weekend: the 1996 revival of Chicago, now the longest-running American musical in Broadway history, still going strong at the Ambassador Theatre; The Visit, their Chita Rivera-led "final" production, which just opened at the Longacre Theatre; and now Zorba!, a rarely seen tuner receiving a New York City Center Encores! staging starring John Turturro.
Where else could this happen other than the City That Doesn't Sleep? To celebrate this landmark occasion, this week's Flashback Friday is one of our favorite Kander and Ebb moments, when the songwriters themselves performed the song which, in 1985 became the official song of the Big Apple: "New York, New York."
