MCC Theater has announced that Broadway veteran Taylor Richardson will step in for the previously announced Julia Garner in the New York premiere of Smokefall, written by Noah Haidle and directed by Anne Kauffman at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. According to press materials, Garner departs the production due to shifting schedules on two projects to which she has been long-committed.

Richardson made her Broadway debut at the age of 11 in the 2012 revival of Annie, where she originated the role of Duffy and later took over the lead role of Annie. Her off-Broadway and regional credits include Nelle in Irish Repertory Theatre's A Christmas Memory and Susan Waverly in Virginia Repertory's Irving Berlin's White Christmas.

The young actress joins a cast that also stars Zachary Quinto (American Horror Story), Robin Tunney (The Mentalist), Jon DeVries (The Apple Family Plays), and Brian Hutchison (Man and Boy).

The play is described as follows: "Magical realism collides with manic vaudeville in a family drama unlike any you've ever seen. The Twins swap philosophy while awaiting their birth, Beauty eats dirt and doesn't speak, Father is about to drive away and never return, and a man named Footnote acts as our guide. Whipping from astonishing tenderness to profound humor and back again, this wholly original play uncovers the extraordinary family connections we all stretch and warp across the years but can never quite break."
