New York City
The production will be helmed by veteran theater director Liesl Tommy.
Before Frozen takes Broadway by storm, it will come to the stage at Disneyland's California Adventure theme park. The production, unrelated to the planned Broadway version, will play Disneyland's Hyperion Theater beginning May 27, 2016, and run multiple free performances each day.
Frozen — Live at the Hyperion will feature the film's acclaimed and award-winning songs by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. It is adapted from the screenplay by four-time Tony nominee Chad Beguelin, who did similar duties for Broadway's Aladdin and its unrelated Disneyland show, Aladdin — A Musical Spectacular.
The production is directed by Liesl Tommy, currently represented on Broadway with Eclipsed starring Lupita Nyong'o. Her collaborators include Christopher Windom (choreography), Jason Michael Webb (musical supervision, arranger, and adapter), Robert Brill (scenery), Clint Ramos (costumes), Charles Lapointe (wigs) David Weiner (lighting), Aaron Rhyne (projections), and Broken Chord (audio). Michael Curry, who codesigned the puppets of Broadway's The Lion King, will bring characters such as Olaf to life.
Frozen will be an immersive production, with state-of-the-art projections and snow falling onstage and in the audience. It is produced by Disney Creative Entertainment.
Disney's Broadway version of Frozen will be directed by Alex Timbers. As previously announced, it will have its pre-Broadway tryout at the Buell Theatre in the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Disney Theatrical Productions will present the show in August 2017, with a planned Broadway engagement to follow in spring 2018.
