The annual festival of new musicals will also present a concert dedicated to the work of female composers.
Recent Tony winner Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home) will serve as the honorary chair of the 2015 New York Musical Theatre Festival.
“We are thrilled to name Jeanine Tesori as our 2015 Honorary Chair, as we celebrate her outstanding work, and the incredibly talented and diverse group of women expanding the definition of musical theatre,” said New York Musical Theatre Festival executive director and producer Dan Markley.
This year’s festival will also present a concert titled Women of Note, which celebrates the female writers who are changing the landscape of musical theater. The concert, set to take place on July 20 at 8pm at the Pershing Square Signature Center, will feature songs by Tesori, Deborah Abramson, Lynn Ahrens, Barbara Anselmi, Carmel Dean, Zina Goldrich, Amanda Green, Marcy Heisler, Anna K. Jacobs, Kait Kerrigan, Zoe Sarnak, Georgia Stitt, Shaina Taub, and more.
Now in its 12th year, the New York Musical Theatre Festival nurtures the creation, production, and public presentation of stylistically, thematically, and culturally diverse new musicals to ensure the future vitality of musical theatre. The festival runs July 7-27.
