The acclaimed new musical will star Tony winner Michael Cerveris.
The Broadway premiere production of Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori's new musical Fun Home will come to Broadway earlier than previously announced. Preview performances will now begin at the Circle in the Square Theatre on March 27, with an official opening night set for April 19. Performances were originally set to begin on April 4 in advance of an April 22 opening.
Inspired by Alison Bechdel's graphic novel-memoir of the same title, Fun Home follows the real-life Bechdel's journey to accept the death of her stern, closeted father, Bruce, while coming to terms with her own sexuality. Tony Award winner Michael Cerveris has officially confirmed plans to move to Broadway with the musical, reprising the role he originated in the 2013 Public Theater production.
Additional casting will be announced at a later date. The original off-Broadway company featured Judy Kuhn as Helen, Griffin Birney as John Bechdel, Roberta Colindrez as Joan, Noah Hinsdale as Christian Bechdel, Sydney Lucas as Small Alison, Beth Malone as Alison, Joel Perez as Roy, and Emily Skeggs as Medium Alison. Sam Gold directs.
