Musicals Tonight has announced its 2016-17 season lineup, featuring five classic revivals. All performances will be held at the Lion Theatre in the Theatre Row Studios complex.
The season will open with Funny Face (October 18-October 30), a 1927 musical by George and Ira Gershwin. The show originally starred Fred Astaire and his sister Adele, and features a number of classic Gershwin tunes including " 'S Wonderful," "My One and Only," "He Loves and She Loves," and more.
Next will be Hoi Polloi (November 1-November 13), featuring music, lyrics, and libretto by Noël Coward. The show, newly adapted by Barry Day OBE, will receive its world-premiere production with Musicals Tonight.
The Irving Berlin musical Louisiana Purchase will follow (February 28-March 12, 2017). Satirizing Louisiana Governor Huey Long, the original 1940 production featured ballets by George Balanchine. The song list includes "Sex Marches On," "You're Lonely and I'm Lonely," "Latins Know How," "Outside of That I Love You," and "Fools Fall in Love."

The show was written specifically to showcase the talents of Sammy Davis Jr. and originally opened on Broadway in 1956 with Chita Rivera among the cast.
Closing out the season will be I Can Get It for You Wholesale, a 1962 musical featuring a score by Harold Rome and a book by Jerome Weidman. The original production starred Elliott Gould, Lillian Roth, and a 19-year-old Barbra Streisand in her Tony-nominated Broadway debut.
