Academy Award winner George Clooney will make his Broadway debut in the stage adaptation of Good Night, and Good Luck, the 2005 film he wrote, directed, and starred in. The story was reported by the AP’s Mark Kennedy.

Clooney played Fred Friendly in the movie, but onstage he will take the central role of CBS anchor Edward R. Murrow, whose critical reporting about Senator Joseph McCarthy at the height of the red scare endangered his job, but was instrumental in ending the Senator’s reign of terror.

David Cromer will direct the play, which is co-written by Clooney and Grant Heslov. It is set to debut in spring 2025 at a Shubert Theatre — although the specific venue has not yet been named.

Should Good Night, and Good Luck open before the 2025 Tony Awards cutoff, Clooney will will be eligible for both a Best Play and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role Tony next year.

Kevin Spacey had previously been attached to the stage adaptation of Good Night, and Good Luck, according to a 2015 report.
