George Street Playhouse Announces Four Plays to Join 40th Season Lineup

The season will open with a world premiere of Gettin’ the Band Back Together, a new musical with a book by Broadway producer Ken Davenport (Kinky Boots) and The Grundleshotz with music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson Award winner Mark Allen (Tinyard Hill). The show follows 40-year-old Mitch Shapiro’s mission to reunite his old rock band after moving back home to the Garden State. The musical is set to run from September 24-October 27, with an official opening set for October 4. Tony Award winner John Rando (Urinetown) will direct.

Up next is a world premiere of Clever Little Lies by Tony Award winner Joe DiPietro (Nice Work If You Can Get It), directed by David Saint. The comedy-drama follows a family, riddled with secrets, that experiences an unexpected revelation. The play is scheduled to run from November 19-December 22, with an official opening set for November 22.

Third on the roster is I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti, adapted by Jacques Lamarre from the memoir by Giulia Melucci. Antoinette LaVecchia will play Melucci, who celebrates Italian home cooking while telling hilarious stories of the various dysfunctional men who have passed through her life and the meals she cooked for them. Directed by Rob Ruggerio, the play will run from March 11-April 6, 2014 with an official opening set for March 14, 2014.

Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Our Town will conclude the season. The American classic will be George Street Playhouse‘s inaugural production, produced in partnership with Mason Gross School of the Arts. Its cast of 24 will join together both professional actors and students and will be helmed by Broadway director David Esbjornson (Driving Miss Daisy). The play is scheduled to run from April 22-May 25, 2014, with an official opening set for April 25, 2014.

One additional piece, to be selected at a later date, will run from January 28-February 23, 2014.
